Unafraid to be happy

A little mental vacation

Then we ate bread
in the kitchen, unafraid to be happy.

Lately it feels like choosing to be happy, joyful—despite everything—is a spiritual choice. Choosing to persist, to prevail, to carry on with hope, is to place your faith entirely in the long game; something beyond this lifetime. Continuing to pursue beauty, truth, and meaning in a world (or maybe just a nation?) that more readily relies on greed, lies, and shallow (evil) avoidance of personal responsibility can so often feel pointless.

But then, a great wild goodness comes over me and I have no choice in the matter.

And so, a small collection of images and words that make me happy. I hope they bring a tiny spark to you as well.
