Wild white horses of the Camargue for the year of the horse

For some, winter “break” is a time of quiet, rest, reflection, reading, cozy days watching holiday movies or baking or sipping tea. Maybe I used to enjoy days like this…it’s honestly hard for me to recall. This holiday season has mostly felt like a lot of buzzing about—packing, wrapping, packing again, unpacking, tidying up, making a mess, tidying up for the twentieth time, leaving the house again for what feels like the hundredth time. There has regrettably not been a lot of rest involved this go-around.

Restful, no, but full of fullness, yes. Different seasons bring different gifts, I suppose. I’m certain there were years I craved this kind of activity and now that I’m here…I miss stillness. And someday I know the stillness will feel all too still.

And so, even in the midst of the blur, I take a stab at some kind of reflection. I need to give my thoughts some kind of form…some kind of diving board to leap from into the coming months. I’m not making resolutions in the traditional sense, but there are some fresh (or merely forgotten) habits I’m keening towards. Things that I know make me feel more alive, but often get pushed to the back-burner by things less worthy of my time.
